Why is Crypto such an unbelievable pain in the ass to use now?

I haven't needed to use Crypto since at least half a decade ago, I wanted to make some purchases today and oh my god, what the fuck happened? It's far more difficult and way more regulated than any regular currency, plus the fees the fucking fees, they tack on ridiculous fees for everything. The restrictions don't even make sense, it's an anomalous currency, why does it matter where I am sending it, why can't I access my own currency for 72 hours, why do I need to scan my passport?

Crypto was the opposite of all of this, it was completely your own responsibility if you messed up and lost it, but now you have to jump through 20 hoops just to trade and then transfer the funds and then the exchange will just hold your funds hostage for 72 hours?!?!? I could transfer my entire bank account to some church or charity in 30 seconds but I have to wait 3 days to use $20 of Bitcoin?!

Maybe I'm just being ignorant, but doesn't all of this bullshit defeat the entire purpose? to be decentralized and anonymous? Maybe I'm just salty that a 5 minute transaction turned into 4 hours of ripping my hair out just to buy something hahaha.
