Why was Bitcoinβs supply issuance designed to halve every four years (210000 blocks) instead of gradually reducing the block reward every block by a tiny amount to achieve essentially the same overall issuance curve without such a sudden supply shock? Was it mainly for simplicity and predictability, or is there a deeper economic or technical reason for having these discrete halvings?
